How does Pigment Removal treatment work?

Short pulses of laser light are easily absorbed by pigmented lesions (like age spots or melasma) due to their high concentrations of melanin. The energy resulting from the absorption warms up the skin layers, destroying only those cells that are rich in melanin while preserving the overall surface.

The laser light induces the skin to produce new collagen and cells, which forms a slight scab. The dark lesion will eventually be shed off naturally.

How does the treatment feel?

Most patients describe the discomfort as mild and tolerable and no anaesthesia is required.

How many treatments are necessary?

The number of required treatments will depend on the type and size of the pigmented lesion but, normally, one to three sessions are required at four to six week intervals.
