How does Pigment Removal treatment work?

Short pulses of laser light are easily absorbed by pigmented lesions (like melasma or age spots) due to their high concentrations of melanin. While preserving the overall surface, the energy resulting from the absorption will warm up the skin layers and only destroy those cells that are rich in melanin.

The laser light will induce the skin to produce new cells and collagen, which forms a slight scab. The dark lesion will eventually be naturally shed off.

How does the treatment feel?

Most patients describe the discomfort as mild and tolerable and no anaesthesia is required.

How many treatments are necessary?

Usually, one to three sessions will be required at four to six week intervals but the number of required treatments will depend on the size and type of the pigmented lesion.
